Upgrade Time

Hey all, it's about time I upgrade some of my core components for enhanced performance as well as future upgrade-ability.

Here are the three parts I'm looking to upgrade from (MoBo, CPU, CPU-cooler): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Nl0g

Here is my current build (sans PSU): http://www.game-debate.com/gaming-pc/index.php?r_id=207716&cpu=Phenom%20II%20X4%20925&gpu=GeForce%20GTX%20560&ram=6GB

(text for those unwilling to check link: CPU-Phenom II x4 925, GPU-GTX 560, RAM-6GB DDR3 1333, MoBo-Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H)

Here is my analysis of the prospective parts:

CPU AVERAGE BENCHMARK: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8320+Eight-Core&id=1782

CPU COMPARISON BENCHMARK: http://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?pid=1143&pid2=310&compare=fx-8320-vs-phenom-ii-x4-925

CPU COOLER: I chose it because it's noise level falls in the range of 8.0 - 24.0 dbA with a fan speed of 1600 RPM, so on paper it looks nice and quiet.

Advice/analysis/yay-or-nay would be appreciated.

The processor you currently have is not bad. I think the places you will bottleneck is Vid card and memory. If you were to upgrade those things you may get a bit more performance that will keep you going until you can afford the 8 core and new motherboard.

Your mb can handle 1600 mem at 16 gig I would get that taken care of.

Vid Card could be upgraded to 760

Then later go with a new mb and cpu is what I would do.

Understood sir, but why is it that my task mgr shows my cpu usage at 100%, with the result of "stuttering" in-game? Does the graphics card and ram really affect the cpu like that? Also, while the video card and ram are definitely things I'll invest into, those are the two things I thought I could wait on. (the link to the two items had the first two paired items come in at over $300)

The main reason I'm looking at the mobo & cpu are for upgrade potential & only a slight focus on performance boost. Currently there aren't very many cards for me to turn to with an AM3 MoBo, but with an AM3+ MoBo I'd have a better range to upgrade from.

Once I've allocated my resources to the MoBo+CPU, I'll focus on the RAM+GPU, to which I'll likely take your advice and pull 16GB RAM + GPU sir.

The video card really has no affect on the CPU(small amount). The ram has an effect for sure. But if you feel it would change perf to upgrade those items I suggest you add ram into that mix as well. 1333 will def hold you back with that processor. Video card is good for now I'm sure you get 60fps on medium-high settings.

Thanks General. Yeah, for now my main issue is the game stuttering when my cpu is maxed out. If more higher frequency RAM will help, then I think I will include that in my list. I ought to know by the end of the month if our hypothesis is correct. Also, I tend to not care about the image quality in game, so nearly every game I play I set to low-settings (unless max settings have no performance boost at all).
