It is a better web solution. Alot harder to hack and take down. vBulletin (vB) is a commercial Internet forum software produced by Jelsoft Enterprises and vBulletin Solutions, both subsidiaries of Internet Brands. It is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database server. Ok cool. So if I buy the program I need to rent a server/domain to put it on right? I'm not trying to go too crazy. Just some small right now for him, on the other hand don't want to limit myself.

www.godaddy.com for domain names, they also offer servers to host your site if you need it. I've always had a good experience with them and they have some very good deals/prices all the time. Google around a bit for some godaddy promo codes and u'll get a discount. The domain name (www."whateveryouwant".com) is a yearly fee you pay to keep it, its kind of like renting a place on the internet. The server can be changed as much as you want and you can just use your domain for it. You could even run a web server off an old machine if you had one, just use the domain for it and it'll end up right there. I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here who could help get you setup. I can setup a basic web server and help maintain it, but when it comes to the bells and whistles my knowledge is limited.

Thanks! I might have a old pc laying around and use that if it saves me money. If you got some time in the next couple days i might ask you a few questions. Also I was told I could use PHP Nuke and it's free. Anyone try that?

You could have a free site, I prefer to use SMF (www.smfforfree.com) But then again, there are many, many downfalls to having a "free site"

vBulletin is great for setting up forums. Too just make a quick site with articles, comments, etcetera, Joomla is a great open-source project. Joomla is a content managment system, this is bascily what you should be looking for. There are many, paid and free, and I've had the best experience with Joomla. It's easy and you have a huge amount of plug-ins and tutorials for it. The installation isn't hard or anything. With programs like Artisteer you can make quite nice templates very easily. For the hosting. Yes, a 'paid' hosting is usually the best. I'm not sure which are good in the USA, but most of them have the basic features you need. A 'real' domain is ofcourse quite useful aswell. All information is on www.joomla.org
