Guest SoundOfDeath Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Today when I was cleaning out the dust in my PC, I think I might have found the problem with why my computer doesn't recognize CDs, but I wanted your guys help on what to do before I went screwing around in there. What I think the problem is that something isn't connected properly I uploaded a picture: http://i54.tinypic.com/2agvy53.jpg Is this supposed to be connected?
Guest WarMachine Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Without seeing what is actually plugged into the back of the CD drive, it's tough to tell if it should be. Does your CD drive even open up? If it opens, then that's not your issue because what you have circled is a 4 pin power connector.
Guest WarMachine Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Can you get a picture of the back of the CD drive? Also, now that I'm looking closer, I think that's a 4 pin but it's wiring is split kind of funny in this picture, so now I'm not so sure.
Guest SoundOfDeath Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 The CD drive opens up, it just doesn't read anything.
Guest Ret.Maj.Xander=US= Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 That looks like a power connector like this one http://au.hardwarezone.com/img/data/articles/2004/1215/tutorial-4pin_molex_power_conn.jpg If so and your drive is opening, then that is not the problem. If it is getting power to open and close it obviously is connected. You can check the IDE ribbon and make sure its pushed into the back of the drive and the motherboard. But DVD drives these days are like $20 with shipping. If its not working you should just grab a new one. Since CD drives have moving parts their lifetime is not very long.
