I'd like to thank everyone who put their .02 $ in. I find it funny how this mutated from a 1300 $ item to a over 2k $ item. once i get the monitor and everything probably going to run me around 2700$. anyways this is the " final product", envy me. xD heat sink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=35-103-089&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182188 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131682&cm_re=p8p67_intel_p67-_-13-131-682-_-Product GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102914&Tpk=saphie%20radeon%206950 x2 Optical thing. Please don't recommend any parts or else ill keep changing. if you see i have an incompatable part please say something. also just wondering if i can even raid those harddrives. and if so whats the best hardware raid device to use?

My core i7 is socket 1366 I would double check what yours is. Also I couldn't see how many power connectors each GPU takes. I would seriously double check and make sure your PSU has enough cables. If they both take 2x 8-pin inputs there's a chance you may run out of cables (although they do provide the standard pin to 8 pin connector cable with each card). Thats some nice RAM, I wouldn't add any other RAM to that system unless the specs are the exact same CAS latensy, and timing. Otherwise you will lose speed forcing those sticks to slow down to the other RAM. But 8 GB is plenty these days, I only have 3 GB and its never gotten above 90% on my system monitor. Also those drives you're planning to RAID IMO don't need to be that expensive but thats your call if you want to dish out the extra cash for a little bit better RPM and a bigger cache. Also it doesn't look like those hard drives come with the SATA cable. You can get a couple for cheap here http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=SATA&x=0&y=0

its an 1155 socket for the sandy bridge cpus. what kind of sata cable do i want? just any one. or that L to L one. also reading on the gpus. they say they use a 6+6 pin connector for each 6950. i don't see that listed on my psu. is it there and im not seing it or what?

It's not gonna be great. That thing has 4 500gb platters. You're better off going with 1TB which has 2.

For the SATA cables, its just your preferance. Sometimes the L ones are better for tighter spaces, sometimes they are annoying. Think about how your comp will be setup and judge from there. All the SATA cables are the same don't worry about looking for "monster cables" just get some with the length you want and if you want L shaped ones. You prolly won't need L shaped ones tho because thats mainly if you're tight on space. Really a HDD is sort of like a CD drive where a laser reads the information on the disc. A platter is essentially a CD but can be re-written many times. What Decayed is saying is that a 2TB drive has 4 platters, each with 500GB of space. Going from one platter to another takes time (a lot of time if your going by normal computer speeds). So by having a RAID of 2x 1TB drives you save yourself 2x speed by losing 2 platters. One reason SSD's are so fast is because they don't have to worry about that process.

Yeah, to add to Xander... i dunno if you know what a record is, but like hard drives work like that. They write information and the outside spins faster so you get more data written on the outside. As it fills up it moves to the inside. That's 1 platter. If you have 4, you are constantly moving between and moving across each.
