HAHAHA! This just reminded me of something. I told this story to some people a couple months ago, and everyone said they couldn't find it, so I looked it up and forgot to post it. I found the article: http://kotaku.com/5593259/rumor-microsoft-killed-plans-for-pc-vs-xbox-360-online-play Apparently, a few years ago, based on eye-witness testimony, Microsoft ran an experiment of PC vs Console to see if they could combine their servers. After the poor console players got their butts served to them on a silver platter with doilies, Microsoft abandoned the project because they would have lost untold millions on console systems and games. (via console-style rage quit, which involves throwing your controller across the room) Wait... do you hear that? It sounds like a roflcopter's approaching in the distance...
Guest MAJ.Kaossilator=US= Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 The project had its ups and downs imo. it was meant to combine the whole MS Live Gaming into one happy family, but it also ran out of funding because only a few big hitters signed up to be a part of it. I believe THQ was one of the bigger ones, which is why any of the CoH games show up in your Games directory in Windows. The idea of allowing PC and console servers to cross-pollinate would have been a huge step towards keeping the PC gaming community alive and kicking, because for awhile it was on its last legs with most of the major studios opting to put more emphasis on their console line-ups. I think it's rebounded a bit in the last few years, but with a few products coming out to market that make it a viable option for consolers to use a keyboard and mouse (link), the only thing stopping consoles from blasting the PC market again are studios not necessarily supporting products like this 100%. Unfortunately, it's a lot easier for people to buy a prefab console for $200-500 with a mediocre gfx card and cpu for the TV they already own than it is for them to get smart about their PC and drop $800-1400 for a whole new setup... Mind you, I don't even own a 360 or PS3, but it's definitely still a major threat to the funding demanded by producing an amazing quality PC game.

Guest RET.CDR.CrAzY_NuTtA=US= Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Just makes me wish with all my wishing powers that they could make it public, the humour of owning all the people that are famous for being amazing on console (youtube community people etc) would be epic.
