Guest SoundOfDeath
At the end of this year I'm looking to upgrade my dual core to an intel i7 quad core. I've never upgraded before, can someone walk me through it please? I know that not all motherboards are compatible with all cpu's, how would I check that? I bet I sound like an idiot :P
Guest WarMachine
So the tough part about that is identifying what your motherboard socket type is if you don't know the model. What is your current processor? My guess is that you wouldn't simply be able to swap the CPU, you would most likely have to do a mobo swap which would require a complete transplant of your system. The other challenge is that swapping the mobo to support a new CPU might make things like your RAM obsolete as well. Is your rig a custom build or something from a manufacturer like Dell or HP or something?

Guest SoundOfDeath
I think I found a motherboard that'll work. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/content.php?S_ID=486 This is the motherboard I have right now. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=366 It was custom built Is there a way to find out if any of my components aren't compatible? Are the cheaper i7's a lot worse then the more expensive ones? Or is the difference neglible?
