@ SN.David: Thats cool, its an awesome monitor @ SFC.ThievingSix: I just had to post. ;) @ PVT.WarMachine: I LOVE your keyboard. And is that an Alienware behind the monitor? The little blue light seems like the Alienhead on their PCs and laptops.

Not to mention the random "stealth mode" trigger they have as a touch-surface button that occasionally gets hit and massively underclocks the CPU/GPU. I'm going to be building another desktop rig down the road, but need to figure out FAFSA repayments before I get back into the custom build arena :) It's been awhile and I really miss the massive Newegg orders showing up on my doorstep. All those nice and shiny brass stand-offs, the smell of fresh anti-static packaging... tasty. Anywho - here's the current rig. Roger that, we usually do LAN's once every month or 2, and since the battlestation post happened to coincide with this weekend we figured we might as well post up while we were in the same room :) Next LAN though we may have to make a trip to Florida I hear, something about Storm and 2Dye and some folks wanting to meet up and game it up for a bit :)

Also, you didn't mention your power supply. I personally think AMD is better for gaming. I mean 470s are great but they are huge power suckers and get hotter. Esp with oc out of the box, this is something to consider. Gotta consider some non oem fans at least for the cpu. I don't think you need 8 gigs of ram, but it's a decent way to future proof. If you are only gaming you really don't need more than 4 imo. If I was going to spend that much, I would tone down to 4 GB, get 2 F3 spinpoints to Raid0 (cheaper than WD and still good speed and quality), and get an SSD for OS. Also would change the 470 to a 5870. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850,2782-7.html 5870 > 470, you start seeing some gains at 480s but again, heat + power is a concern. If money is no object, then this is a pretty good setup and will rock. Except for the HDD.

Yeah I have to say when I switched from platter to SSD it was like night and day. All of a sudden the bottleneck is a lot harder to locate. I can't recommend it enough, especially some of the newer ones that support TRIM in Win7 as well as some self-maintenance perks. Go Intel on the SSD if it's of interest. Suddenly this is looking a lot like my Newegg wishlist :) @Sgt.Decayed, when I do find the $$ (someday) to get my rig I'll have to hit you up for assistance getting raid0 going. I've never tinkered with it and probably should have been for a long time.

If money is no object, then this is a pretty good setup and will rock. Except for the HDD.
/agree RAID0 across two drives would definitely be a better balance of price/performance... just make sure you unlink your RAID stripes before you do anything serious to your BIOS, or you run a good chance of losing all of your data... I just made that mistake last weekend. ATI vs. nVIDIA... as Decayed said, you might get a little bit better performance out of the higher-end nVIDIA cards, but at what cost? Unless you want to invest in a water-cooling setup, the heat can be a serious issue. It really sucks having to worry constantly about overheating your rig, and the random safety reboots always happen at the most inconvenient times. On the RAM thing, I would recommend you go with 6GB, but YMMV... there have been alot of issues (especially on the gaming side) with 8GB, and some of the same issues can appear if you run 4GB... although those might be isolated to 64-bit OS? But yeah, IMO, you can't go wrong with 6GB.
