I had everything disconnected from my mother board on my old Alienware so I could clean it up to sell it. I thought I reconnected everything correctly however when I power it up a high pitched "alarm" type noise comes out of the motherboard. What the hell did I do wrong?

What kind of beep(One long or short 3 burst ect)? What Socket Type(Example, 775: P4/Core 2/Quad Core, 1366: i7 1156: i5) Does it lock up on boot? Is restart automatic right after P.O.S.T.? Does the screen stay black on boot up?

Video cards need power now? :-o I guess I'm going to have to put the laptop down and build me a new machine so I can see what is going on these days with the hardware. This is proof that it isn't always Alienware's fault. :)

Almost every high end graphics card will require AT LEAST one 6 pin power input. Mine takes 2 and so did my old one. All alienware sucks, sorry big mac.

How is yours the exception lol? Unless you paid half for what they charge your computer isn't any better than a custom computer with the same parts. In fact it is probably worse than a custom computer with all the same parts. The cost is less and you don't have to start with Dell's bloatware installed on your system. Lets turn this into a math equation. your computer (AW) contains all custom parts (C) at price (P). Now we'll take a custom build (CB) with the same custom parts (C) and price (P') so AW = C*P (your computer is equal to the parts times the price). The custom build computer CB = C*P' (the same parts times a different price) We know that P > P' based off the fact that Alienware is over priced and custom parts are cheaper. So the computer with the best worth is the computer with the lowest, parts*price value. So all you need to do is get the minimum parts* price value, ...so Min({AW},{CB}) = Min({C*P},{C*P'}) = C*P' = CB = Custom build Can't beat math ;)

You equation does not take into account the cost of labor and having a PC built for you, nor does it take into account shipping associated with separate parts, or the cost of "bundled software". Also your equation only showed that the price of CB(C*P') hence AW>CB or gone into more detail and said (C*P + L + B + S)>(C*P + B + S) L = Labor B = Bundled software(OS included{yeah you can get linux....}) S = Shipping I had fun! And yes you can beat math, its called a M24 thumbs up if you agree!

You lost me at CB to the power of this and that. Capt.Xander just took the "nerd" and raised the bar. ;P Simple Terms: Custom= Cheaper and better performance, plus anything go's wrong you learn how to fix it. Saves you money in the long run. Alienware = good for 1 year, then your 3000 turns into 300. :( Then your "AlienCare" expires and you are required to by more "AlienCare" to talk to a customer service tech(Thanks Dell). You got lucky Bigmac. Thank the Alienware/Dell Gods.

There are no gods. I got what i paid for. And whats wrong with paying a little bit more for the PC? I'm not anywhere near the poverty line for you guys to be concerned. Maybe the Alienwares back then were trash. Now their awesome. And why talk about AlienCare when most of you guys know how to fix and build a computer?

Calm down bigmac. Dell is part of the reason I don't like alienware now. I always say, since I'm a capitalist if you can afford it then buy it. Your choice your money.
