I can only stress that the cooling is going to be your biggest task wood retains more heat I would say at least 3 fans 2 for intake. Counting your power supply gives you 2 exhausts. Make sure Airflow is one direction. Looking at your design you might want to lower the motherboard down a level so intake air flow is close to that level maybe put a medal liner where you mount power supply just for safety.(fire) I think it’s a really cool looking. Can’t wait to see it finished.

I think you pretty much nailed the base colour though :) Looks so epic i cant wait for it to be done!

Actually CPT.Storm is right, and i never thought about it. The reason most cases now are made from metal is because it is the base casing to keep things cool. You will need to have extra fans/heat sinks if you want that thing to run at a normal temp.

Yeah i though about that aswell, thats why i am using a picoPSU. http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/it.A/id.417/.f It produces almost zero heat itself and hooks up to a powerbrick. The only things producing heat are the CPU and the harddrive. Amd the colors aren't supposed to be the same as in the picture of the cube in game thats why its V2 :D

Unfortunately no :D the amount of space it uses is way to much and the cost is also a bit too much. Ok so your probably wondering why i haven't updated this in a bit, its because not alot of progress has been made(well forward anyway) and I've been extremely busy with school and all. So i was reviewing the measurements of my box(the case) and to my shock and horror the dimensions were all off the the circle cut out was not centered. How come i missed this you may ask? its because my square was broken and it was giving me 87 degrees instead of 90. After throwing it out the window a couple of times, i went out and bought a new one. And of course i had to rebuild the box, some people suggested a color change as well so here it is, heres a comparison photo, the finish on the edges is also a lot cleaner, although these photos don't really do it justice, ill upload some better ones later. I've also ordered the parts, a hard drive, Pico-PSU and the motherboard, Hopefully i can get them by next week(their coming from the US) so that i can put them in and start work on the circle bits(you will know what i mean later :D). Painting the edge pieces Re-drawing up the cube, this time i triple checked dimensions. Painted the inside and joined together. A comparison photo the top one is what its supposed to be Another comparison photo Although its difficult to see the difference in the end the circle cutout was about 25mm off!!!

lol I know mm, I deal with mm everyday. When the tooth is only about 14mm x 9mm and you have to cut it....you start dealing with 0.5mm lol 25mm is alot for us :-P

The company I work for is a European Cabinet company. All our machines run off MM. Only been using MM for the past 3 years but when I first started I really thought it was the inferior measurement. I was WAY wrong. When it comes down to accuracy, you cant beat MM.

Off-topic: Thought you might want to see this. http://speeddemosarchive.com/flash.pl?Portal_PC_1427 That speed run is on Xbox... the PC versions are faster because they use glitches, but is not as entertaining to watch. This run is without glitches. Glitch runs are about 13-14 min record.

Haha nice that was sweet :D. Alright so the parts came, and i was understandably excited so i took alot of photos :D here are some of them. Hopefully i can get them installed this weekend but don't count on it, football grand finals are on this weekend so ill be busy. Ok so this update took a while longer because i had to wait on parts to come, and unfortunately im still waiting on some stuff. But its nearing the finish line, hopefully ill have it finished in the next 3-4 weeks. The motherboard with the hex spacers suspending it in the air Mounted the motherboard with screws through, its now sturdy as ever. The top mounting hole and the motherboard mounting screw, this will all be hidden by the corners, which will sit flush Gluing the pieces together Spray painting the stencils i made The final product, the spray paint ran a little under the stencil in some parts, but overall you cant notice it from far away, so it looks alright.

Alright so this update is pretty good, hopefully i can show you guys the PC working. Anyway i've added the mounting plates, shortened a tonne of screws and mounted the face plates, i've also glued the hard drive, not long now! Gluing the mounting plates(these join the base to the frame) Drilled the holes and put some screws in them, had to aim for a 3mm hole in a 6mm gap with a massive handheld drill, harder than it sounds :D And here's the final product, you can only see 3 faces, ill have full views soon :D!. Painted the screws black although the camera doesn't do it justice. And here you can see the hard drive mounted and the PSU and cables put in.

Unfortunately no, i envisioned it to be a simple media PC for playing movies and music, mainly due to the fact that i had to keep the cost down. However it can be easily upgraded to a gaming rig, if i had the money of course. Also i've got a new build up and coming in the next 3-6 months so keep on the lookout for that :D, its going to be a good one.

Alright this is another quick update, I've started making the LED circuit, Heres a quick schematic, if there are any electronics experts please tell me if im doing anything wrong. Should i run a resistor on each line? I know i can run 6 LED's in parallel without a resistor but im not sure. This is all wired in a MOLEX connector. The Led Schematic(all the led's are orange 5mm diffused) Cutout a mounting block, drilled some holes and put a LED bezel through them. The soon to be wired up LED mounts Installed LED mounts.

The following formulas should help: Power = Voltage x Current Power = Current^ 2 x Resistance Power = Voltage^ 2 / Resistance Running too much current through the LED's will reduce life expectancy. Can't help much more, I haven't dealt with simple circuits in over 20 years. Your project is looking good.

Hmnn burnt through a few LED's and my fingers testing my LED's until i figured out i needed a resistor. According to this calculator here i can run 6 LED's on a parallel circuit without the need for a resistor(it says 1 ohm but who really cares). Also the switch came which was cool. Here is the new schematic, would this work better? it eliminates the need for resistors i believe anyway. So heres the question, the first schematic or the second? The second schematic This is the switch, the middle lights up to a nice warm orange :D Heres a better image.

Just a quick update, about a quarter of the soldering is complete, just 3/4 to go!, see the missing side? without the light panels?, well thats the back side of it where all the ports are, i decided not to put led's on the back panel, mostly due to the fact the the cables would have got in the way of the ports. Just a quarter of the cables
