Don't get me started on WoW, I could go on a rant dismantling that game but since I know of some members who play time to time i'll hold back. But devs face a problem when making a game like BF2 or CoD4, longevity. If you make a game that can last 2+ years after release thats fantastic, and says something about how good a game is. Unfortunately the developers and publishers won't be making any money in those years and still be paying to have the servers running. By making DLC, expansion packs or booster packs they are able to still bring in money for their games they made awhile back. It sucks but its what they do when they know a game is popular and people will pay for it. The one exception I can think of is Star Craft. This game has been around since before 2000 and it still has TONS of games up and running. With no DLC and one expansion that is now free if you provide a CD key for the game this is a rare gem.
