According to our history, this clan has been an active gaming community for 10 years. It was established March 24th, 2004. Thank you to all members who have served (both the good & the bad) , because without you we would not be who we are.

I can't resist, so here are a few thoughts...

Unknown Soldiers has been a Battlefield clan since March of 2004. In general, no gaming community stays together for that long. Gaming communities fail for a multitude of reasons and many both start and end every day. It's not an easy task to gather a solid group of individuals, all aligned with a single purpose. To hold those members together and to keep a community alive for 10 years is, simply put: remarkable.

On bf4clans.com, there are 160 BF4 clans registered as North American/PC. That is just a sample of the communities that are actively interested (or were at one point) in recruiting members and representing themselves publicly. While I cannot easily find the number of platoons registered in BF4, the number of platoons registered from BF3 was 1.3 million. Sure, most of those are just groups of friends that wanted an easy way to find whatever server their buddy is in. But it represents an overwhelmingly large population of gamers who want to be part of something bigger than themselves.

That is what we provide in Unknown Soldiers. We are a structured community dedicated to one specific ideal: honoring those who are fallen, currently serving, or have served not only in our military, but any armed forces or civilian service. To that end, we set ourselves apart through the art of military realism. It is indeed an art, and was best put by Major General DentalMav when he said:

You can go online and find hundreds of clans that use military ranks to show their power structure, but you will find very few that dedicate themselves to the ART of Realism. Very few that follow the customs, rules, regulations, discipline and honor that goes with the Real Life military.

Joining any clan or gaming community is a risk. It may not seem like it at the time, in part because it's very easy through mechanisms like Battlelog platoons, Bf4clans, Google, or playing in servers to locate and apply to any given clan. However, it is still a risk. You risk wasting your time, energy, patience, money, or you just plain risk whether or not you will continue to enjoy playing the game itself. You want to know that when you join a community that you will have a reason to stay. You want to know that you won't be rejected, that you'll fit in, that you'll be welcome and involved.

Unknown Soldiers is no different.

That sounds bad at first, but it's true. Joining any clan is a risk. However, what we do better than anyone else is address all of these risks by making them all worthwhile. We provide a wide array of channels through which we get as much enjoyment as possible out of being a member. We have branch competitions, practices, meetings, Combat MOS, a very active Teamspeak, a fantastic scrim team, and all sorts of new activities being planned all the time that help make things enjoyable. But it doesn't even stop there. After all, we're not here to just strictly have fun, otherwise we would spend all our time pubbing or just hanging out. Where we get a lot of our enjoyment from is keeping the community alive and thriving. Reports sound like a pain in the neck, right? Sure they are, but with every report, every exam administered by an NCOIC, every NCOA test, and every promotion to any rank, comes a lot of thought and effort put in by ALL of our members.

Why do we do it? Because we all know it's worth it. Those risks you take on when you join a community pale in comparison to the reward you get from being a part of that community.

To see that we have, over 10 years, continued to gain new members who have truly enjoyed their time here says it has always been, and will continue to be worth the risk for all members. You gain new friends, have a great time in game, and help to build and maintain a community that constantly strives to improve itself. We would not be anywhere near where we are today without the hard work and dedication of past and current members. Below is a list of all of our Retired members who have earned the right and privilege to stay in this community because they just couldn't let it go. Some you know, most you won't. All were dedicated, all gave their time, and all wanted to stay an Unknown Soldier even though they couldn't stay active. That speaks volumes.

Col Kaosillator - This is an outstanding piece and would make a great recruiting tool. You should post it on the front page of the site along with an announcement of our 10th Anniversary. What is remarkable to me, although it shouldn't be, is the willingness of the community to step back and examine itself. The "art" of military realism has come through in spades this week. The kerfuffle we went through would have seriously damaged a lesser community. While we may take some lumps from it, it is apparent that we are coming out of it stronger, not weaker. Thank you and the rest of the JCS for keeping this community running. Without leadership this Clan would not be celebrating it's 10th anniversary today.
